Orthodontics

What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that connects teeth and jaws that are not positioned correctly. Crooked teeth and teeth which are not fitted properly are harder to clean and they are at increased risk of getting lost early because of tooth decay and periodontal disease. This issue can cause stress and even lead to headaches. Teeth that are crooked or not in the right place can affect their appearance.

The orthodontic treatment benefits the people because they have a healthier mouth and the teeth also last for a lifetime. The specialist in this field is known as an orthodontist.

Orthodontic treatment is not only about getting straight teeth

Oral health is affected by crowded, crooked, misaligned bites, and gapped teeth. When the teeth are damaged, or it has a gap, it allows the gaps to contain bacteria and food particles. There is an issue of gum inflammation, gum disease, and tooth decay. These conditions can become severe in the future. For all these solutions, Invisalign can address the majority of the issues.

What do you need to know about Invisalign orthodontic treatment?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners made from the durable and plastic material. It does not have wires, brackets, or metal like traditional braces.

Our orthodontist started the process by taking 3D images of the teeth with a computer program to check the exact position. It helps to design the aligners, and they will be placed on the right spot to correct the smile.

At the beginning of the treatment plan, the aligners are replaced every 2 weeks. By the end of the treatment, these are replaced weekly or as suggested by your orthodontist.

How do I know if I need to consult Orthodontics?

Only your dentist or orthodontist can determine whether you can get an advantage from orthodontics. Based on the diagnostic tool includes a medical and dental health history along with a clinical exam, special X-ray, and photographs that can tell you which treatment plan you need to get. If you have any of the following, then you might be the candidate for the orthodontics treatment:

  • Proclined upper front teeth
  • Crossbite : Crossbite is when the upper teeth are front in the front of the lower teeth when biting them normally.
  • Underbite : An underbite is the bulldog appearance when the lower teeth are extremely far forward or the upper teeth are extremely far back.
  • Misplaced midline : Misplaced midline is when the upper front teeth center part does not line to the lower center of the front teeth.
  • Open Bite : Open Bite is the space between the biting surface of the front of the teeth side when the back teeth are going to bite together.
  • Spacing : Spacing gaps or spaces between the teeth as a result of missing teeth or teeth that do not fill up the mouth.

How Does Orthodontic Treatment Work?

Given below are some of the different appliances which include:

Braces

Braces are the common appliances that contain bands, brackets, or wires, these are fixed around the teeth or teeth and these are used as anchors while brackets are bonded at the tooth front. Braces are adjusted monthly to get the desired results.

TOOTH BRACES AND STAINLESS WIRE

Special fixed appliances

These are used to control tongue thrusting or thumb sucking and these are attached to the teeth with hands. This is considered the last choice because it makes it difficult to enjoy the meal.
